Overview of Law Department

The Law Department of Alzahra University is one of the newest departments in faculty of Social Science and Economics founded in 2014. Currently, there are 4 faculty members working in this unit.

Introduction of Law

Law is one of the sciences which is a compound of knowledge, technique and art. This science is highly related to the life of human being that its principles of formation can be found from the beginning of human life. Hence, this science was established when people started trading, marrying, making law, judging, and punishing offenders for the first time. Nowadays, the science of law is developed in multiple areas aiming to meet the current needs of the society in conjunction with the development of other new sciences which has a 100 year history in Iran (The establishment of the first law school is in 1919).

The law can be pursued in graduate studies. The Master of Arts (M.A.) program includes variety of fields such as private, public, criminal, international, economic, family, intellectual family, and environmental law and human rights. The Ph.D program consists of disciplines of private, public, international, international business, and criminal law and criminology.

Levels of Education

The law department was launched in 2014 and undergraduate students are currently admitted as a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) students. Hopefully, the Master of Arts (M.A.) degree is going to be launched in near future.

Professional Job Market for Graduates in Law

Students graduated from Law school have variety of job opportunities including:

Judge in Courts: Nowadays, it is possible for women to be hired in judicial positions including prosecutor, interrogator, family court counselor, and others (Generic title of Judge is used for the jobs mentioned).

Attorney: Graduates in Law on the occasion of being successful in the bar association exam can receive the advocate’s license and hence, they will be allowed to start their business lawsuit or defense for clients in courts.

Notary Public: Graduates in Law can set up an office and provide notarizing services after take notary license.

Solicitor on the Judiciary: Based on the article 187 in the law of the third plan of development, judiciary is allowed to take action about accreditation of graduates in Law for receiving the license for establishing legal consulting firms. Currently, judiciary issues this license by taking a test and the persons who are admitted have the same responsibilities as lawyers.

Legal Experts in Government Agencies and Private Companies: All of the administrative agencies take advantage of legal expert’s abilities. Also, private companies perform their legal affairs including issuing agreements, follow up actions, notarizing and so on with the help of legal experts.

Additionally, graduates in Law can find jobs consisting of official experts, commercial arbitration, providing legal advice etc.

Research and Training Potentials

Faculty members of this department have specific qualifications in providing research services and training courses in the following areas:

·        Family law

·        Intellectual property law

·        International law

·            Law of obligations.
