Overview of  Women and Family Studies Department
The Women and Family Studies department is approved by the higher council of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology in 1996 and it has started its activities since the same year at Alzahra University. Currently, there are 10 faculty members working in
this unit consisting of one full professor, one associate professors and three assistant professors.

Introduction of the Women and Family Studies

The department of Women and Family studies, conducts its educational programs in the area of family studies in B.A. level and in the area of women studies in M.A. level.

The Family Studies (B.A)

This major try to study and do a systematic and scientific investigation of family from juridical, legal, social and psychological perspectives based on Islamic thinking and it is a coordinated collection of research and training activities that would head to achieving scientific results and to provide research texts, support for innovation and in order to deepen information in addition to development of knowledge in the area of family.

The women studies (M.A. in areas of Women and Family and rights of women in Islam)

The field of Women Studies, is an interdisciplinary course. In this major, many efforts have been made in order to show the place of woman appropriately in Iran and around the world in academic and scientific manner. The area of woman and family is an interdisciplinary area with sociology and also, the area of the rights of woman in Islam is an interdisciplinary area with law background.

Levels of Education

This major started its activities in B.A. level in 1996 In Alzahra University, since then the department has developed by providing required facilities and conditions, launching its first M.A. program in 2001. Universities namely, Alzahra, Tarbiat Modares and allameh Tabbatabai are the first three universities which admitted students in the field of Women Studies during the academic year of 2002 in the level of M.A.

Currently, there are 109 students studying in the field of Family Studies in B.A. level and 71 students in master of Women Studies.

Professional job market for graduates in Family and Women Studies

 Regarding the existence of an appropriate job market for graduates in this major and due to attention paid to their considerable educational talents, graduates of Alzahra University Women and Family Studies Department can easily enter the professional job market in research and training affairs, women commissions, welfare organizations, counseling centers of women and family affairs in ministries, Broadcasting organization, planning organization, courts, rehabilitation centers and prisons.

Additionally, the satisfaction of the centers which cooperate with accounting graduates of this university has caused their promotion and progress in academic and professional levels happen much faster.

Research and Training Potentials

The faculty members of this department have specific qualifications in providing research services and training courses in these following areas:

·        The area of  family

·        The area of  women

·        The area of  jurisprudence and law of family and women
